Letter: Area much in need of homeless shelter

In reference to Bryan Horwath’s Saturday story on the homeless in Dickinson, although I’m pretty fond of dogs and even a few cats, I must say that I wholeheartedly agree with Ron Keller of the Amen Food Pantry that it’s “funny” (sic absurd) to see that while Dickinson has half a million dollars for a dog and cat shelter, our city’s Southwest Homeless Coalition (a most honorable organization) has but a few pennies to do what’s needed for our fellow human beings.

For whatever reason, good or bad, we have brothers and sisters in need who are less cared for than Fido or Tabbie.

Someone with the organizational skills needs to step forward and in conjunction with the Southwest Homeless Coalition, or any of the other local charitable organizations, begin setting up a fund for a local homeless shelter — ASAP. This is not a political issue; it’s a one-to-one human kindness issue.

I know that there are multitudinous excuses and reasons to put off this much-needed project, but baby, it’s cold out there — now.
