Letter: Construction of animal shelter could create jobs

In reference to the animal shelter vs. a homeless shelter:

I will admit that I am very much an animal lover, and yet my heart goes out to the homeless souls who are out on the streets. At the same time, I am somewhat disappointed and confused of why it is everywhere that I look there are “Help Wanted” signs at many of our local businesses and talk of how a business was forced to close early or simply close its doors because they can’t find help!

I would like to see someone put forth the effort and process of trying to find a fit for the homeless (with background checks etc.) so they may start earning a salary and possibly some self-worth. In my opinion, this would be a win-win situation.

After all, these defenseless animals did not ask to get dumped into the streets where their only choice is survival of the fittest or die! So just maybe an animal shelter is well deserved and could possibly be the answer to a job or two for a homeless person. As they say, a dog is a man’s best friend.
