BISMARCK — The Dickinson Trinity boys basketball team used a solid defensive effort to thwart Shiloh Christian.
The Titans held a six-point lead at halftime en route to a 65-40 win against the Skyhawks on Saturday.
“We had a good balance on offense and I was really impressed with our defensive effort, especially on the glass,” Trinity head coach Gregg Grinsteinner said.
Trinity came into the season ranked No. 5 in the Hoopster, while Shiloh came in ranked No. 7.
Jacob Volk led the offensive attack with 20 points, but the Titans main goal was to get the inside presence going.
The two inside presence guys were Jesse Kubik and Isiah Binstock. Kubik supplied 13 points and nine rebounds, while Binstock added 11 points and 11 rebounds.
“The goal going in was establishing the inside game,” Grinsteinner said. “I thought Jesse and Isiah did a really good job. We established that early on in the game.”
Trinity senior Jacob Good might have only scored four points, but his biggest influence was on defense. Good was in charge of limiting Shiloh senior Donovan Lambert. Though Lambert finished with 15 points, Good held him to five points in the first half.
The Titans prepare for the Roughrider Tournament in the opening game against New England, the runner-up in the McLean County Tournament, at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
“With the Roughrider Tournament happening this week, we had five games in the next 10 days,” Grinsteinner said. “We want to get a lot of different looks from different teams.”
