Bygate, Duran score 17 each as DSU edges Johnson & Wales

DENVER — The Dickinson State women’s basketball team was on fire from everywhere on the court.

The Blue Hawks needed every shot to fall, especially against Johnson & Wales University (Colo.).

The Blue Hawks shot 57 percent from the field and 86 percent from the free-throw line en route to a 77-74 win over the Wildcats on Saturday.

Mariah Duran and Jess Bygate led the charge for DSU (4-8), each scoring 17 points. Janae Moore added 13 points and nine rebounds. Yianna Nadeau supplied 12 points.

The Wildcats’ (5-10) guard Caitlin Durkin was the most impressive on the floor with 26 points including going 6 of 6 from 3-point range.

The Blue Hawks and Wildcats play again at 1 p.m. today.
