Bravettes ride early lead to win over Midgets

BELCOURT — The Dickinson High girls basketball found itself in an early 12-point deficit — and that was before it even made a basket.

BELCOURT — The Dickinson High girls basketball found itself in an early 12-point deficit — and that was before it even made a basket.

It was a hole the Midgets weren’t able to climb out of. All five Turtle Mountain starters scored in double digits in a 75-61 West Region win over Dickinson on Saturday.

“Overall, I thought we did some good things,” Dickinson head coach Dan Pender said. “The bad thing is they went to a 12-point run. We dug ourselves a hole really quick and it was hard to come back from.”

In the Midgets’ first West Region game, Taylor Cooper supplied a team-high 14 points and Ali Moody added 12.

The Bravettes responded with Joee Keplin and Winter Monette each scoring 17 points. Shikiya Chase had 14, Whitney Wallette with 13 and Brooke DeCoteau rounded out the five starters with 10.

“Their starters played well,” Pender said. “They shot well. That was the key.”

Sydney Gangl and Avery Privratsky each added eight points while Lillie Meduna and Riley Cooper posted six. Meduna added four assists.

“I thought our guards played fairly well,” Pender said.

The Midgets look to rebound traveling to Glendive, Mont., at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to play Dawson County after starting the season with back-to-back losses.

“We’ve got to better ourselves,” “I think our girls have progressed, it’s just the mental things that we have to clean up. We have to take of the ball for us and just having more patience on offense.”
