Midgets top Red Devils for first win of season

GLENDIVE, Mont. — The Dickinson High girls basketball team found their flow at the right time Thursday night and it helped them win their first game of the 2012-13 season.

Despite playing with foul trouble, Ali Moody scored a game-high 18 points to help the Midgets to a 46-41 victory over Dawson County (Mont.).

Dickinson (1-2) outscored the Red Devils 21-13 in the fourth quarter — something uncommon for the team since North Dakota Class A teams play 18-minute halves opposed to the traditional four eight-minute quarters.

“We got better ball movement,” Dickinson head coach Dan Pender said. “We started to run a set and we went through the whole thing and got good looks. Girls got good shots.”

Sydney Gangl added 12 points for the Midgets, hitting three 3-pointers.

Dickinson hosts Minot High at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in a West Region game.

“Getting this win and going into Saturday’s game against Minot is a confidence booster,” Pender said.
