Beulah new Class B boys No. 1; Ryan remains atop Class B girls poll

Beulah is the new No. 1-ranked team in Class B boys basketball following its wins over previous No. 1 North Star and No. 8 Four Winds-Minnewaukan last Thursday and Friday, respectively.

Beulah is the new No. 1-ranked team in Class B boys basketball following its wins over previous No. 1 North Star and No. 8 Four Winds-Minnewaukan last Thursday and Friday, respectively.

The Miners (7-0) are followed in the rankings by North Star (6-1) at No. 2 and Dickinson Trinity at No. 3. Trinity goes into its Christmas break undefeated at 7-0. Fargo Oak Grove (5-1) and Des Lacs-Burlington (5-0) round out the top five.

Beulah received all but one of the 12 first-place votes in the poll voted on by members of the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. North Star received the other first-place vote.

One of the two teams has been ranked atop the poll since Dec. 27, 2010. North Star won the 2011 Class B title and lost to Beulah in the 2012 championship game.

In the Class B girls poll, Minot Ryan held on to the top spot, receiving 10 of 12 first-place votes. The Lions are 3-0.

Kindred and Napoleon, which received two first-place votes, are tied at No. 2. Grafton and Hillsboro-Central Valley round out the top five.

Grant County moved up two spots to No. 6 while Dickinson Trinity (2-1 after a 69-24 loss to Ryan) and Beach (2-2) received votes.
