Montana authorities said Friday progress has been made in the investigation into the death of a 25-year-old Glendive man who was found deceased in his home last week.
The lead investigator in a case being treated as a homicide, however, said there is concern within the community that a killer is still at large.
Matthew Wiseman’s death on Dec. 21 at a residence in the Casitas Del Rio trailer court in Glendive is being handled as a murder case, said Montana Division of Criminal Investigation Chief John Strandell.
“We’re working with the local authorities on this case,” Strandell said. “The crime scene has been processed and we’ve sent the evidence to the state crime lab. We don’t have any suspects at this point.”
Strandell said DCI agents are working in collaboration with Glendive police and the Dawson County Sheriff’s Department on the investigation.
“There is a concern right now in the community because there has not been an arrest in this case,” Strandell said. “The next information we release will probably be information on an arrest, but there is no timetable for that right now.”
Dawson County Coroner Lance Silha said Wiseman’s body was sent to Billings, Mont., for an autopsy, which has been completed, though results are not available. Silha declined to offer the cause of death, though he did say a firearm was not involved.
Glendive police were called to Wiseman’s home at about 11 p.m. Dec. 21. A representative with the Glendive Police Department declined comment about the case on Friday.
An oil field worker, Wiseman was married to Kelsea (Jenson) Wiseman and leaves behind two young daughters, according to an obituary posted on the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Homes website. The obituary lists Wiseman as a 2006 graduate of Dawson County High School and lists Wiseman as a baseball player, football player and wrestler while in high school.
DC High School wrestling coach Tim Zody said Friday that Wiseman moved to Glendive from Baker, Mont., for his senior year, though he was not a wrestler at the school. Baker High School wrestling coach Jade Melby said Wiseman participated in wrestling while at the school.
Visitation will take place Sunday evening at the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive with funeral services at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Glendive.
