A crab crack in western North Dakota

For a crab crackin’ good time, St. Benedict’s Health Center is sponsoring a Crab Crack on the Prairie.

The crab crack is replacing St. Benedict’s traditional candlelight dinner.

“It’s new and different and we’re excited to bring a crab crack back to Dickinson,” committee member Julie Binstock said.

The crab crack is at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13, at the Ramada Grand Dakota Lodge.

It’s a sit-down dinner featuring a menu of snow crab legs, barbecue ribs, side dishes and dessert. In addition, there will be micro-beer stations serving local brews and cider.

Shawn Oban, who plays a variety of acoustic music as a solo performer for restaurants and private parties, is the entertainer. He also plays with the band Rift for street dances, colleges and corporate events.

Cheryl Brooke and Angie Schank are co-chairpersons of the committee in charge of arrangements.

“We’ve been doing candlelight dinners for more than 20 years and so we wanted some new excitement,” Brooke said. “I think it will be well-received, because you think of crab cracks as being on the beach in the summer.”

The door prize is a M. Wayne Willis limited edition framed lithograph.

Proceeds will be used to support St. Benedict’s building improvement projects.
