BISMARCK — For three and a half games, the Dickinson Trinity girls basketball team felt it was giving up far too much defensively.
It finally got the momentum swing it needed in the third quarter Friday afternoon against Minot Our Redeemer’s at the Shiloh Christian New Year Invitational.
The Titans outscored Our Redeemer’s 20-6 in the third quarter en route to a 54-43 victory to snap a three-game losing skid.
“The first quarter, I was a little bit disappointed with our defensive effort,” Trinity head coach Alysia Barman said. “We did some things defensively that we had to switch up.”
Freshman Alana Sickler, in her first varsity game, had 13 points and 10 rebounds to spark the Titans (3-3). Rachel Jahner scored a team-high 16 points and Katelyn Grinsteinner contributed 14 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals. Allison Steffan had six points and 10 rebounds.
“The little things we’ve been trying to get out of you, we’re going to go to whoever we have to find to do those things for us,” Barman said, recalling what coaches told the team before the game. “I thought Alana stepped up and did a good job.”
Trinity faces Fargo Oak Grove at 1:30 p.m. today at the invite.
