5 Midgets move on at Bismarck Rotary

BISMARCK — The Dickinson High wrestling team had a solid opening day at the Bismarck Rotary Tournament, putting five of its 10 wrestlers into the consolation placing rounds Friday.

Austin Hutzenbiler reached the 113-pound semifinals before falling to Bismarck Century’s Nathan Humann by a 16-4 major decision.

Jaret Lee (106), Devin Berger (132), Clayton Tangen (145) and Chris Sickler (220) are all still alive.

Michael Cherwinski (152), Michael Dobitz (170) and Jace Dukart (170) were eliminated in the third consolation round. Dillon Clark (145) and Jacob Shypkowski (160), bowed out in the second consolation round.

“To have five alive going into the second day of the Bismarck Rotary is pretty good,” Dickinson co-head coach Pete Dobitz said. “We had a couple kids who, if they wrestled a little bit smarter, would be in the placing rounds too. It’s a little mixed feeling of satisfaction and disappointment for a couple kids.”

Hutzenbiler can finish anywhere from third through sixth place. The other four Dickinson wrestlers still competing can place anywhere from third to eighth.

Michael Dobitz was eliminated by Ryder Peterson, a former Midgets standout now at Sidney Peterson pinned Dobitz in 1 minutes, 47 seconds.

The Midgets finished the first day with a 19-15 record, which included 12 pins. Dickinson sits in 13th place in the team standings with 70 points.

“We’re happy with that,” Dobitz said.
