Dickinson gymnastics bounces back, wins Fargo Davies Invitational

FARGO — Despite missing their top two scorers, Keana Kudrna and the Dickinson gymnastics team bounced back from a loss on Friday night at Jamestown with a 142.475 team score and the win Saturday at the Fargo Davies Invitational.

Kudrna won the all around with a career-high score of 37.050, the vault (9.500) and the uneven bars (9.300) to lead the Midgets. She was also second in the floor exercise (9.350) and sixth on the balance beam (8.900).

“It was really her day. That was it,” Dickinson head coach Kent Van Ells said. “We had a lot of girls who really came through.”

Chantel Urlacher was second behind Kudrna on the bars (9.050), Mckenzie Kostelecky was third on both floor exercise (9.025) and balance beam (9.200).

The Midgets were without two-time all-around state champion Acacia Fossum. The freshman is out with a muscle pull. They also lost junior Mikaela Kessel after she suffered a possible concussion after falling off the uneven bars, the first event.

“We showed some serious depth missing what many people would say are our top two, but Keana had a whale of a day,” Van Ells said.
