No. 3 Titans roll past Standing Rock

BISMARCK — Dickinson Trinity boys head basketball coach Gregg Grinsteinner said senior post Isiah Binstock had a monster game.

Grinsteinner wasn’t kidding.

Binstock supplied 16 points and 18 rebounds to lead the No. 3-ranked Titans over Standing Rock 80-28 on Saturday at the Bismarck Civic Center Jamboree, which was moved to Bismarck Century High School due to power outages at the Civic Center.

“I liked our kids’ focus,” Grinsteinner said. “They came out and got after it right away. The kids really executed on both ends of the floor.”

Not only did Binstock have a solid game, his fellow big man inside, 6-foot-7 senior post Jesse Kubik, added 16 points.

“Everything we want to do starts with (Binstock and Kubik),” Grinsteinner said. “I think our kids are realizing that, especially our guards. Alex Binstock and Mitch Meyer were getting the ball to our big guys early in the game and spots where they could score.”

The Titans (12-0) had four players in double figures with seniors Jacob Volk and Jacob Good each supplying 18 points. Good, a 6-3 guard normally called upon for his defensive abilities, has emerged as a potential scoring threat for Trinity.

“He’s so athletic on the defensive end and now he’s showing it on the offensive end,” Grinsteinner said. “That’s another mismatch that we can go to. We’ve been progressively getting better since the Roughrider Tournament.”

Jerome Talley led Standing Rock with eight points, while Jalen Lawrence added six points, five rebounds, two assists and one block.

Trinity has its biggest challenge so far this season when it hosts No. 1-ranked Beulah in a District 14 game at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Knights of Columbus Activities Center.

“We controlled the glass,” Grinsteinner said. “We controlled the tempo of the game. We executed our offense and didn’t give Standing Rock a lot of looks. We did a nice job of defending the arc. It was good preparation for Tuesday.”
