Fred Skurupey, 76, Blacksburg, Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 23, at his home after a 16-year battle with cancer.

Fred Skurupey, 76, Blacksburg, Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 23, at his home after a 16-year battle with cancer.

He was born in Belfield on Jan. 30, 1936, to the late John and Rose Skurupey.

He is also preceded by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Paul and Mamie Echols; brothers-in-law, Gale Echols, Frank Kadrmas, Ben Nakaruk, Anna and Lloyd Dennis; son, Gregory Skurupey; brother, Walter Skurupey.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene Echols Skurupey of Blacksburg; daughter and son-in-law, Jodi and Todd Bowyer of Christiansburg, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Reggie and Wendy Skurupey of Max Meadows, Va.; grandchildren, Logan and Sheridan Skurupey, Adam and Abria Seelbach, Dillon and Matthew Skurupey, Ashton and Cameron Dunn, Alexis and Raegan Bowyer; sisters, Marie Makaruk of Dickinson, Betty Kadrmas of Belfield, Kathy Brunsvold of Bismarck; brother, Tony Skurupey of Belfield; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Shirley and Ruth Echols of Blacksburg; special friends, Pastor Richard Gilbert, Radar Vaden, Alan Linkous; special caregiver, Janna Anderson.

Special thanks to Amedisys Hospice of Salem, especially Cindy and Sara and Dr. Robert Rotche and his staff.

Funeral services are Sunday, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m. in the Slusser’s Chapel Church of God with the Rev. Richard Gilbert and Rev. Rador Vaden officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Slusser’s Chapel Church of God Youth Ministry, 1543 Mt. Tabor Road, Blacksburg, VA 24060.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg, Va.
