Free-throw shooting helps DSU men defeat Montana Western, 83-71

The Dickinson State men's basketball team used its free-throw shooting down the stretch to defeat Montana Western on Saturday afternoon at Scott Gymnasium.

The Dickinson State men's basketball team used its free-throw shooting down the stretch to defeat Montana Western on Saturday afternoon at Scott Gymnasium.

John Hanstad and James Hayden each scored 19 points and Johnie Sanders added 14 as the Blue Hawks claimed a 83-71 Frontier Conference victory.

DSU shot 15 of 18 from the free-throw line in the final 4 minutes, 4 seconds. Hayden was 11 of 12 from the line and added a team-high seven rebounds.

It was the the first home conference sweep for the Blue Hawk men and women since Feb. 18, 2011 when they each beat South Dakota Mines. The DSU women topped the Bulldogs 71-63 earlier in the afternoon.
