Hugo Kreitinger

Hugo Kreitinger, 95, Beach, passed away Friday, Jan. 25, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson.

Visitation is noon until 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Beach. A vigil service is 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Beach.

A Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Beach, with Rev. Todd Kreitinger celebrating and Rev. Dan Berg con-celebrant. Rite of committal will be at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Beach.

Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Beach has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Hugo was born April 1, 1917, the son of Frank Xavier and Mary (Heinzer) Kreitinger on the family farm East of Golva.

Hugo received his education in the Golva Public Schools graduating from Golva High School with the class of 1935. After high school, Hugo joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and later returned to Golva where he farmed with his dad and his brother.

Hugo married Luciel Bares on September 23, 1941, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Golva. To this union seven children were born; two girls, Karen and Yvonne and five sons, Ken, Ron, Dan, Dave and Dean.

Hugo and Luciel established their home east of Golva where they farmed until Oct. 26, 1942, when Hugo entered the U.S. Air Force at Ft. Snelling, Minn., and served in England and the United States. He was honorably discharged Sept. 28, 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wis.

After serving in the military he returned to Golva where he continued farming until 1959. He worked for the ASC, was a stockholder and the first manager of Valley Dairy, and was the Golden Valley county treasurer for 16 years.

Hugo was very active in numerous organizations over the years, which included St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Golva, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Beach, Knights of Columbus, Township and School Boards, VFW, American Legion and Lions Club.

He enjoyed playing pinochle, gin and as a young man he played baseball and basketball and had a love for all sports.

Hugo was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Yvonne Hildebrant; two granddaughters, Amie and Sondra Hildebrant and three brothers, Leo, Frank and Joseph who died in infancy.

Hugo is survived by his wife, Luciel of Beach; one daughter, Karen Kryzsko of Beach and her children, Shane (Susie) Kryzsko, Amber (Todd) Klein, Vonnie (Mark) Eaton and Taletha Kryzsko; Yvonne’s children Twyla (Jon) Swanson and Jordan Hildebrant; five sons, Ken (Layne) Kreitinger of Bismarck, and their children, Father Todd Kreitinger, Tate (Tami) Kreitinger, Tara (Greg) Rummel and Tiffany (Chris) Baumgartner; Ron (Barb) Kreitinger of Salem, Oregon and their son, Jacob Kreitinger; Dan Kreitinger of Wanamingo, Minn., and his children, Troy (Sharon) Kreitinger, Brooke Kreitinger and Noah (Jenna Turtle) Kreitinger; Dave Kreitinger of Wilmington, N.C., and his children, Shanna (Chris) Harris and Bethany (Greg) Hamiln; Dean (Pam) Kreitinger of Gilbert, Ariz., and their children, Nicole (Jason) Schumacher, Jill (Daniel) Eberhard, Brandon (Kerri) Kreitinger and Chad Kreitinger; 34 great-grandchildren with three more expected; two sisters, Delphine Lorenz of Seattle, and Catherine Norris of Everett, Wash.; three sisters-in-law, Bernice Kreitinger, Marie Kreitinger and Leona Popiel; one son-in-law, Robert Hildebrant and numerous nieces and nephews.
