MANDAN — Erron Collins was a one-man wrecking crew for the Mandan boys basketball team Saturday night.
He knocked down shots, forced Dickinson High into fouling and scored the game-winning basket.
With the scored tied, Collins stripped the ball at half court and scored an easy layup with 2 seconds left in the game for a 54-52 win over the Midgets in a West Region game.
“We played hard enough to win, but we just couldn’t play smart enough at crucial times,” Dickinson head coach John Wilson said. “We had a lead for a good part of the game. I was very proud of the effort from our kids on back-to-back games.”
Collins finished with 28 points. He went 3 of 4 from 3-point range, eight rebounds and three steals. Dickinson guards Dylan Skabo and Mark Erickson each were asked to defend Collins. Both fouled out.
Jordan Krieg supplied 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Midgets (5-4, 3-4 West). Luke Herauf added nine points and four rebounds off the bench, while Jaden Kudrna supplied seven points.
“We did a nice job in the post,” Wilson said. “Our (offensive) balance wasn’t quite where we would like it.”
Dickinson held a 26-22 lead at halftime. The Braves (4-7, 4-4 West) made 15 trips to the free-throw line in the second half, compared to Dickinson’s four.
