Trinity OL Kubik verbally commits to NDSU

In the words of Jesse Kubik, “If North Dakota State is looking at you, you must be doing something right.”

NDSU has definitely been doing something right the past two seasons, winning back-to-back Football Championship Subdivision titles.

Kubik, a 6-foot-7, 290-pound senior offensive lineman from Dickinson Trinity, verbally committed to join the Bison football program starting in the fall 2013 semester on Saturday.

“I believe I can compete at that level,” Kubik said. “It’s going to take a lot of hard work, but I know I can get it done.”

The Trinity senior started all nine games at left tackle this season and was named to the Class 2A first-team offense.

Trinity former head coach Randy Gordon, who retired after the 2012 football season, said Kubik has the size, ability and work ethic to play at the Division I level.

“I definitely think he’s a good package for them,” Gordon said. “Offensively, he gave us the biggest comfort. We ran on his side a lot and he was able to move just about anybody he wanted to.”

Kubik also garnered attention from the University of North Dakota and the University of Mary. He said the deciding factor was the family ties to NDSU. Kubik’s older brother, Jacob, is currently a student at NDSU and his other two brothers graduated from the university.

“It a little bit closer to home,” Kubik said. “I just liked the environment. I liked the whole thing.”

Kubik will likely redshirt his first year at NDSU and look to continue playing offensive tackle.

With verbally committing to NDSU, Kubik doesn’t have to look far to see players from the Dickinson area. Nate Moody, a 2011 Dickinson High graduate, received playing time as a freshman last year and caught 18 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns in his sophomore season. Last year, the Bison signed Beach’s Landon Lechler, a 6-7, 253-pound offensive lineman, who redshirted this past season.

“It will be nice to see some familiar faces,” Kubik said.
