James Leiss

Funeral service for James Leiss, 77, of Dickinson will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Stevenson Funeral Home with Rev. Cal Oraw celebrating.

Burial will be 3 p.m. CST, Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.

Visitation for Jim will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., today, Jan. 29, at Stevenson Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

James passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at his home in Dickinson.

James J. Leiss was born March 26, 1935, in Dickinson, the son of Joe and Theresa (Keller) Leiss. He grew up on the family farm south of Manning and attended the local country school. After graduating from high school, he went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. After being honorably discharged, Jim returned home to North Dakota. On November 18, 1955, Jim and Lillian Moore were united in marria ge at the Normanna Lutheran Church in Dunn Center. The couple then moved to Wahpeton while Jim attended the North Dakota State School of Science. Jim and Lillian later returned to the family farm and he became the U.S. postmaster at Manning. He worked in this capacity for over 25 years. Jim and Lillian retired to Dickinson and made their home here ever since.

Jim enjoyed collecting toy tractors and stamps, traveling with his camper, visiting and playing cards with his friends at the Eagles Club.

Jim is survived by his son Milo Leiss; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Theresa Leiss; his wife, Lillian; and brother, Roger Leiss.
