BISMARCK — The Dickinson High girls basketball team has played right there with the No. 1-ranked team in Class A for three halves and an overtime this season.

Bismarck Century broke open its five-point halftime lead wide open in the second half, dropping 59 points on Dickinson after the break en route to an 82-33 West Region victory Thursday night at the Century High School gymnasium.

The Patriots (11-1, 9-0 West), who won their 10th consecutive game, had come back to force overtime in a 66-57 win over the Midgets on Jan. 8. They didn’t let Dickinson hang around that long again.

“Century, give them credit, they picked up their defensive pressure,” Dickinson head coach Dan Pender said. “We couldn’t get shots and the biggest thing was we were in foul trouble.”

Jordyn Jossart made five 3-pointers and led four Patriots, who led 23-18 at halftime, in double figures with 20 points. Hannah Larson added 13 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Macy Lynch and Jen Benz each added 13 points.

Ali Moody led Dickinson (4-7, 2-6 West) with 13 points and five rebounds.

The Midgets shot just 3 of 14 (21 percent) from the field in the second half and committed 23 turnovers.

Century limited itself to eight miscues while holding a 35-26 advantage on the boards.

“Our girls battled,” Pender said. “The second half, Century came after it. They took it to us. We’ve just got to be ready for it tomorrow.”

Dickinson hosts Bismarck St. Mary’s in another West Region game at 5:45 p.m. today at the DHS gymnasium.
