Steele, Schrempp win at St. John’s Open

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — Brad Steele and Cameron Schrempp left Sexton Arena in high spirits.
Steele and Schrempp, both seniors, won individual titles at 141 and 174 pounds, respectively, at the St. John’s (Minn.) Open on Saturday.
After a 10-5 decision in the semifinals over Augsburg’s Tom Kuehn, Steele finished off the tournament with a 7-4 win over Thane Antczak, an unattached wrestler from the University of Minnesota. Steele also picked up two pins during the tournament.
Schrempp defeated Joshua Willaert of St. John’s in a 4-2 decision. Schrempp also collected two pins.
Pins came in droves for the Blue Hawks. DSU had a tournament-high 20.
The Blue Hawks added seven more placers including Bryden Lazaro (125) in third place, while Kevin Keisler (197), Brian Klevis (285) and Sean Elkins (149) each took fourth. Matt Chambers (133) placed fifth and Briley Crissler (184) and Skyler Carroll (197) both finished sixth.
The Blue Hawks continues their season meeting when it meets Chadron State in a dual for the second time this season at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Scott Gymnasium. DSU defeated the Eagles 21-18 in their first meeting on Dec. 5.
