HAZEN — The Dickinson boys hockey team picked up a big win Tuesday night that should keep it out of the West Region Tournament’s play-in game.
Jamison Gray gave up one early goal and then turned away 28 shots as the Midgets defeated Hazen-Beulah 3-1 in a West Region game that will give Dickinson at least the No. 7 seed in the tournament and a chance at the No. 6 seed.
“Overall, everybody played well,” Dickinson head coach Tom Folske said.
Mickey Folske and Alex Turcotte scored first-period goals to give the Midgets a lead after Logan Behm snuck one past Gray just 73 seconds into the game.
It was Mickey Folske’s team-leading 21th point of the season and his 13th goal.
Dickinson (7-12 overall, 4-10-0-1 West) kept going after North Stars goalie Tyler Murschel, however, and senior captain Brendin Steiner padded their lead on a goal assisted by Tim Knudson and Jayden Mink with 6:11 remaining in the third period.
Murschel stopped 41 shots in the loss.
“It’s huge,” Tom Folske said. “The more shots you have, the bigger percentage is going to go in. You keep pounding on the door, they’re going to let you in sooner or later.”
Dickinson hits the road for West Region games at Minot High on Friday and Williston on Saturday.
