Rose M. Nelson, 91, formerly of Dunn Center, died Monday, Feb. 4, at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson.

Rose M. Nelson, 91, formerly of Dunn Center, died Monday, Feb. 4, at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson.

Rose’s funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Normanna Lutheran Church, Dunn Center, with Rev. Rachel Simonson officiating. Interment will follow at the Emerson Cemetery south of Dunn Center.

Visitation is today from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with a prayer service and time of sharing at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church Friday.

Rose Marie Martian was born May 19, 1921, north of Belfield in Billings County, the daughter of Phillip and Anna (Schropp) Martian. She was raised on the family farm where she attended country school through the eighth grade.

Rose married Silas Nelson on Aug. 14, 1943, in Killdeer. Together they lived, farmed and raised their family near the town of Emerson. They remained on the farm until 1991 when they moved into Dunn Center.

Her husband, Silas, died July 5, 2007, and Rose remained in Dunn Center until September 2008 when she moved to Benedict Court in Dickinson. She then became a resident of St. Benedict’s Health Center in 2011.

She was an active member of Normanna Lutheran Church, the WELCA and Bible studies. She loved to quilt, work in the garden, baking, canning and especially caring for her pets.

Rose is survived by her six children, Connie (Ron) Stroh, Glendive, Mont., David (Janice Nelson, Rural Gladstone, Debbie (Will) Dukart, Stevensville, Mont., Carla (Glen) Scott, Manning, Phyllis Nordeng, Dickinson, and Rhonda (Phil) Eppler, Gladstone; 17 grandchildren, Randy, Greg, and Travis (Jessica) Stroh, Doug and Jim Nelson, Deanna (Mike) Davenport, Ondrea Dukart, Diana (Roger) Pattie, Ben Dukart, Kyle (Denyse) Scott, Kim (Ken) Biffert, Glenda (Neil) Feist, Rena (Ryan) Zimmermann, Sy Nordeng, Amanda, Andrew (Sarah) and Luke Eppler; 17 great-grandchildren, Sage, Jacob, Brody, Kelty, Jonathan, Miranda, Miquela, McKenzie, Gavin, Jacob, Rebecca, Patrick, Megan, Emily, Morgan, Heath and Grant; and three soon-to-be great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; twin infant daughters; her parents; four brothers; five sisters; and son-in-law, Ron Nordeng.

Arrangements are with Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.
