The company behind the Highlands development is bringing in experts from out of state to find out what happened Tuesday when the unoccupied building went up in flames, developer Mitch Rubin said.
A passerby noticed smoke and called the fire department shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dickinson Fire Department Chief Bob Sivak said.
DFD sent 32 firefighters and four trucks to the scene where flames were visible coming out of the roof, he said.
Crews had the fire contained shortly before 9 p.m. and were removed from the scene about an hour later.
DFD is also investigating the fire and planned to determine the cause as early as Friday evening, Sivak said.
The fire began in the attic and most of the damage was contained to the attic and the roof.
The cost of the damage is unknown at this point, Rubin said. But the company may have to start over again.
