Wasting little time between announcements, U.S. Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., on Friday released details of a second major air travel agreement for Dickinson.
After news of an agreement to bring jet service between Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport and Denver was announced Monday, Hoeven’s office detailed a new deal between TRRA and Delta to bring twice-daily nonstop jet service to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
Service will be offered beginning June 10 with tickets available for purchase through Delta’s website starting Feb. 23.
“I spoke with Delta representatives this morning and they’re ready to commit to come in with service,” Hoeven said. “This is important because it’s dependable jet service between Minneapolis, which is a major hub to the east, and Dickinson. This is important for Dickinson and important for southwest North Dakota.”
Flights will depart Dickinson at 7:45 a.m. and 11:50 a.m. while flights from Minneapolis are scheduled to depart at 10:15 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. The Delta flights will be operated by SkyWest using CRJ-200, 50-seat planes.
“This is wonderful news for Dickinson,” said Dennis Johnson, the city’s mayor. “I don’t remember us ever having service to Minneapolis. I can’t wait until they get started.”
On Monday, it was announced that United Airlines and TRRA had come to terms on an agreement to bring regional jet service in the form of twice-daily nonstop flights to Denver. The airport has offered commercial service to and from Denver on smaller aircraft for several years in a partnership with Great Lakes Airlines.
“Sen. Hoeven has done just an outstanding job for us in helping us reach these agreements,” said TRRA manager Matthew Remynse. “We had our first meeting with Delta back in October and it’s great to have the deal finalized now. It’s very exciting to be able to offer travel to a major hub east of Dickinson.”
Hoeven has often cited North Dakota’s robust economy — largely due to the state’s booming Oil Patch — in advocating major airlines to expand service to the state’s eight major airports.
“We appreciate Delta committing service to southwest North Dakota,” Hoeven said. “(Dickinson) will now have access to major hubs to the east and the west in Minneapolis and Denver and this will help western North Dakota meet the demand for expanded air service owing to a growing economy.”
Last year, TRRA had nearly 24,000 boardings, which was an increase of close to 5,000 from 2011.
