MINOT — Dickinson High battled the No. 3-ranked team in Class A boys basketball for all of the first half and most of the second.
However, a late surge by Minot High helped it pull away for a 63-52 West Region victory over the Midgets on Saturday night.
“You can have mistakes, but you can’t have them compound and multiple on consecutive possessions,” Dickinson head coach John Wilson said. “About the seven-minute mark, that’s what happened to us.”
Brandon Van Dusen had game highs of 19 points and nine rebounds for the Magicians (13-2, 11-1 West). Brian Bloms added 18 points.
Jordan Krieg led Dickinson (7-7, 4-7 West) with 16 points while Jaden Kudrna added 13 and Levi Jordheim chipped in eight points and seven rebounds.
Minot led 32-30 at halftime and Dickinson kept the game close well into the second half.
“We played as well as we’ve played all year,” Wilson said. “We just can’t maintain it.”
