WILLISTON — The sweet corn line did it again.
Led by sophomore Mickey Folske’s hat trick, the Dickinson High boys hockey team picked up four goals and seven points from the line centered by Folske en route to a 6-4 come-from-behind West Region win against Williston in their regular-season finale Saturday.
Folske scored a power-play goal in the first period, put Dickinson ahead 3-2 4½ minutes into the third period and completed his hat trick on an empty netter with 9 seconds left.
The line, known affectionately as “sweet corn” because of the yellow practice jerseys they wear, also saw action when Kass Dvorak put Dickinson up 4-2 with 6:57 remaining on an assist from Folske.
“They’ve been in kind of a little bit of a drought,” Dickinson head coach Tom Folske said. “They busted loose and hopefully that’ll carry on into the (West Region) Tournament.”
Dickinson fell behind 2-0 in the first period, but got goals from Mickey Folske and Gannon Karsky in the second to tie it.
“We just came out on the wrong end in the first period,” Tom Folske said. “We just kept plugging away with shots and they started falling in.”
Cody Hughes scored two goals, adding another with 29 seconds remaining in the third period to bring the Coyotes (3-15-1, 2-12-1-0 and 6 points West) within a goal.
Dickinson peppered Ty Berg with 18 shots on goal in the first period. The Midgets took just 26 shots the rest of the way.
Brett Schweitzer turned away 19 shots from the Midgets (8-13-0, 5-11-0-1 15 points West).
Dickinson will have the No. 7 seed in the West Region Tournament and face host Minot, the No. 2 seed, at 5 p.m. CST Thursday at the All Seasons Arena.
