Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) used two dominate pitching performances from Chris Housely and Matt Mundfrom to defeat DSU 3-0 and 8-1 at the Metrodome for its first two wins of the season.

“Today, we made bunch of mistakes and they took advantage of them,” DSU head coach Jason Watson said. “Yesterday, they made the mistakes and we took advantage of them. We kicked the ball around early in the second game.”

Housely went all seven innings, allowing three hits and striking out eight. Michael Lukkason led the team going 2-for-3 and a RBI.

For the Blue Hawks (2-2), Tanner Newman, Ryan Risse and Brock Murphy each tallied hits. Bobby King was tagged with the loss after throwing all six innings.

In the second game, the Tigers (2-6) scored six runs in the first three innings. Mundfrom threw 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run and striking out eight. Nockleby led the team with two hits and two RBIs.

Jacob Muir led DSU with one hit and scored one run. Nick Kearley started and tossed 1 2/3 innings in the loss.

DSU continues its season when it travels to McPherson, Kan., to play Sterling College and McPherson College beginning at 12:30 p.m. Friday.

“It’s early and you’ll run into those things as far as mistakes go,” Watson said. “I’m not too worried. I know these guys worked very hard over the last year.”
