‘Simply’ the best: Dickinson-, Halliday-based Simply Organized clears the clutter from southwest North Dakota

After Patty Voigt stopped doing home-based medical transcription, she got to examining her own home and thought, “This is really silly, because I worked within my home — I didn’t have the driving time and all of that — and I thought, ‘This could be really fine-tuned.’”

Feeling she had a knack for home organization, she thought she could do the same for others.

Voigt shared this with her long-time hairdresser, Juanita Koppinger, who jumped at the chance to be Voigt’s partner.

“I emailed her back and said, ‘Let’s get together and talk,’” Koppinger said.

That was about two years ago, and since then the ladies have been building a business, Simply Organized. They formed an LLC last year and launched a website with the help of the Strom Center today.

Their services include cleaning and organizing homes (all rooms and garages), offices, classrooms, storage sheds, barns, shops and churches as well as helping pack up estates. They provide a lunch for themselves and their clients, who they prefer to work with.

“We go in and first discuss and assess which areas are giving them the most stress,” Koppinger said.

The ladies clean out the room with their client, help sort the items from the area into three piles: keep, donate or toss, and then decide how and where the “keep” items are going back.

“Working hands-on with them is one of the things we specialize in,” Koppinger said. “By working with them they learn so much.”

If any additional shelving or storage containers are needed Koppinger and Voigt will purchase them and then charge the client what they paid. They try to source things locally, but sometimes have to order online or get things in Bismarck.

“Some things that we’ve used in the past we say, ‘This works really well,’” Koppinger said. “So we recommend it.”

The ladies will provide some handy-man type services to the best of their ability, but will defer if the project is above their expertise.

They offer maintenance services to come back and refresh their work after a period of time and will help organize a home before their clients move in.

Their coverage area is the two-hour drive-time radius around Dickinson. They help organize owned home and rental units, but might suggest different solutions for a rental.

They charge $100 per hour, but their hourly rate includes both of them.

“Life is so busy now,” Voigt said. “People don’t have time to fine-tune everything.”
