Protein power: Maximum Nutrition, a protein shake bar, opens in Dickinson

After missing the protein shake bars he had grown accustom to in Fargo, Preston Pearson wondered why Dickinson didn’t have the same.

After missing the protein shake bars he had grown accustom to in Fargo, Preston Pearson wondered why Dickinson didn’t have the same.

His sister-in-law, Sara Fitzsimmons, wondered the same thing one morning after a workout, wanting something to eat, but not wanting to make a full breakfast or get a sugary drink and snack at a coffee shop.

“So we quit our jobs and…” Pearson said. “… decided to see how this would go,” Fitzsimmons finished.

They opened up Maximum Nutrition just a few blocks away from the West River Community Center at the corner of Villard Street and State Avenue and sell a meal replacement ritual.

It starts with a shot of mango-infused aloe water, followed up by either hot or cold herbal tea in original, lemon, peach or raspberry, Pearson said.

From there they offer 45 ever-changing flavors of protein shake that start with either chocolate or vanilla, berry, cookie or coffee shake base. To create the different flavors fruit, pudding powder and other items like peanut butter are added and blended in, he said.

One 16-ounce shake starts with 24 grams of protein and 250 to 300 calories, depending on the flavor. More protein can be added, Pearson said.

A ritual cost $7 and things like extra protein or fiber are extra.

“There are additional things to make your shake more filling,” Fitzsimmons said.

None of the shakes contain dairy products and they are designed to help drinkers get in shape — whether that be losing weight or gaining muscle, Fitzsimmons said.

If making a trip to the west side of town isn’t in the cards they do sell the shake bases for use at home.

As the business grows they plan on attending wellness fairs and running weight loss challenges, the first of which will take place this spring.

And getting a shake doesn’t take long.

“You can be in and out of here in five minutes,” Fitzsimmons said.

Maximum Nutrition is located at 1785 First St. W., Suite D. It is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m Saturday and are closed Sundays. Call 701-483-1818 for more information.
