Bentz, Grant County beat Shiloh to reach first state tournament

MANDAN — Grant County senior Ashley Bentz did everything she could to make sure her team avenged last year’s Region 5 championship game loss to Shiloh Christian.

Bentz had 25 points, 10 assists and six rebounds as the Coyotes clinched its first-ever trip to the Class B state girls basketball tournament with a 60-57 overtime victory over Shiloh Christian.

Shiloh had defeated Grant County in last year’s region title game.

Freshman Beth Muggerud had 20 points and 11 rebounds while added Mikayla Forness 14 points and 14 rebounds to lead Shiloh in defeat.

Elisha Tatro had 12 points for the Coyotes.

Bentz was named the region’s Senior Athlete of the Year.
