Class A state tournaments: Red River, St. Mary’s roll in boys consolation

BISMARCK — Grand Forks Red River defeated West Fargo 69-62 in the consolation semifinals of the Class A state boys basketball tournament at Exhibition Hall.

Senior guard Brady Rotert paced the Packers with 19 points including three 3-pointers.

Mac Kroeplin was one of four Roughriders who scored in double figures. Kroeplin, A Mr. Basketball finalist, finished with 16 points for Red River (21-3).

Jake Robson connected for a 3-pointer with 9 minutes left in regulation that gave the Roughriders a 43-41 lead

The Roughriders advance to play Bismarck St. Mary’s in the fifth-place game at 11:30 a.m. CST at the Bismarck Civic Center. West Fargo finishes its season 15-9.

Bismarck St. Mary’s got 24 points from Ben Weisbeck in a win over Mandan in the consolation semifinals at the Exhibition Hall.

Darius Sparks added 16 points for St. Mary’s (20-3) and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line.

Erron Collins scored 16 points for Mandan. The Braves finish their season 10-14.
