Shanley girls handle Bismarck for 3rd
BISMARCK — Fargo Shanley pulled away in the final six minutes to defeat Bismarck 72-63 in the third-place game of the Class A state girls basketball tournament on Saturday at the Bismarck Civic Center.

Bismarck rallied from a 37-26 halftime deficit to tie the score at 57 when MacKayla Feeney hit two free throws with 5:48 remaining. But Shanley followed with an 8-0 run.
Sara Jacobson got the spurt going when she drove the lane for a 3-point play to break the tie. A Jacobson defensive rebound and long outlet pass led to Alivia Fraase’s fast-break layup. The Deacons went up 65-57 when Kelly Weir hit a 3-pointer with 4:17 remaining. Bismarck got no closer than six the rest of the way.
Weir paced the Deacons with a game-high 26 points. Jessica Anderson added 14 points, while Fraase 12 and Haley Brenner 10. Keisha Engelhardt scored 20 and RyLee Meier 10 to lead Bismarck.

Kyra Dewald connected on six 3-point baskets to lead Jamestown to the win in the consolation championship game.
Dewald finished with 22 points leading the Blue Jays. Paige Peterson added eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Mandan was led by JaeLyn Russell, who drained three 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 17 points.
