It’s no coincidence that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention rank agriculture as one of the most dangerous industries for workers. Rodney Rebel, a fourth-generation farmer in Richardton, can attest to that following a March accident that left him with a broken left arm and pelvis. “I was driving down the highway near Richardton, pulling my tractor on the way to feed the cows, when I was rear-ended by a semi,” Rebel said. “It’s terrible. Land values continue to increase
A chance to conduct business on even a small piece of North Dakota’s more than 39 million acres of farmland has not come cheap in recent years, as the price per acre continues to rise. Kevin Pifer, a former North Dakota Deputy Commissioner of Agriculture who heads Pifer’s Auction and Realty in Bowman, said land values have tripled over the last six years. “Farmland values increased around 30 to 40 (percent) last year but leveled off in November,” he said. “The market remains really strong and very confident.”The Dickinson Press, 05/10/2013
