The problem with the majority of liberal parties in charge, is that they assume they know what is best for everyone. They assume without ever asking. Kreig was right on by saying, no one from the community or student body is making this an issue, it is a nonissue? The role of people in charge is at large a listening role. You need to listen to the people you are trying to serve. Leaders forget this and assume they can determine what the issues are without actually asking and of course by all means they know better than everyone else. It is a control thing for people with big egos. Having a mascott named after anything is a way to honor it, not make fun of it. I was attending DHS when we had this issue happen in 97. Do know how fun it was to be a cheerleader with no school mascott? We had to insert "claps" into the school songs in place of saying the word midget. Complete embarrassment to the school. Leave the moscott alone!

Doesn't anyone think that things may have changed in 14 years?

There is no problem with the name midgets. If I remember correctly, a few years ago the Midget mascot was on Jay Leno and they asked the Little People of America (or some association like that) if they were ok of the name. And I believe they said they loved having a mascot named after them. I don't see a problem with it unless actual short people have a problem with it. People need to stop worrying about offending people and just live their lives. If there is a problem, it can be fixed. But I see no problem here.

Why is the school board rehashing an old subject? How many times does this subject have to come up? Stop trying to be politically correct and get on with the normal school business. Don (Mike) Cuskelly

I think the politically correct police are at the butt end of as many jokes as North Dakotans are. For example, look at the leader of the National Organization of Women who came out and said that the Tim Tebow commercial promotes violence against women. She's nuts. The PC police go too far sometimes. This Midget mascot thing is just another example.

Why try to fix something that isn't broke?
