It is embarrassing to admit to others that our high school name is the Midgets in this day and age. It is a derogatory name that has no place in society. How many of the people commenting here know or have friends who are vertically challenged? No wonder we here in North Dakota are the butt of so many jokes of intolerance and ignorance.

This was brought up in the 90's and the people spoke up and wanted to keep the name. Doesn't the board have more important things to take care of like the EDUCATION of the children?

Krieg was very wise to come out and say he wants no part of this.

I agree with Mr. Krieg. This is a non-issue and should not be before the board on it's own initiative. If Mr. Rummel and Ms. Fehr feel differently, it may be time their time on the board ends, as it seems they may have lost their focus and cannot concentrate on the truly important issues that a school board should be addressing.

As a Board of Education why would you want to bring up an issue that the citizens of Dickinson addressed 14 years ago. It seems you as a Board are already questioning the name, indicated by your request for information from Gary Thune. How many times do you want to be told, leave the name alone!!

Maybe we ought to take the name of every town in the state that has a school, starting with the A's and name the school teams A-1, A-2, etc. or Beach B-1, Belcourt, B-2. In a case like Mott-Regent, MR-1. Colleges and universities can go by GF1 without the dash, for UND. DSU can be D1. That way, we will possibly be able to finally eliminate the constant turmoil the state of North Dakota seems to be in over team names. Then we can cheer and say,"GF1, you're number 1 !" Or, "Cheer, cheer for MR-! !" And the mascots will all look like numbers out on the floor. Then, the congress can pass a bill making it mandatory nationwide and each state will be assigned a number in front of the letters like Hawaii will be preceded by a 50. No more Vikings, Fighting Irish, Fighting Sioux, or Midgets. No more individuality, just a bunch of numbers. That ought to make team morale skyrocket.

Why would the name of Dickinson be changed?
