At a State level most of the Bills are not that long. At a National level, most of the time the Staff reads the bill and basically gives the congressmen crib notes. The Health care bill when typed in this font and not double spaced with normal margins is closer to 700 pages. ( Which is still long) This should not be a law this should be common sense. If Obama was for this at a national level the GOP would be against this too. To bad they did not read the Patriot Act before they passed that.

So if they are going to vote againest the bill, they don't need to read it? Makes no sense to me

If you did not do your job you would be fired. I support this petition and would like to see real checks and measurements to ensure it is enforced. If these bills are too large to read, then maybe corporations shouldn’t be allowed to write them, and others should not be allowed to ad to them. Where can I sign the petition? I like the other petition for term limits too.

In ND the bills are not thousands of pages long...most are only a couple pages....appropriations bills are longer but not thousands of pages...This is North Dakota not Washington DC. A one page bill is not hard to read and neither is a 10 page bill. They SHOULD read each and every bill and certify they will read them. (certifying without reading would be perjury) There is nothing wrong with having a bill be online for at least 4 days prior to voting...it will keep things honest...not last minute votes after a quickie hearing...this type of things happen all the time...have a hearing...amend the bill...send it to the floor the same day for a vote. This measure will STOP that s**t from happening. It will also give those citizens who are working to pass or kill a bill a chance to know there were changes.

What has come with this world? We voted for these lawmakers and they have to make a law for them to READ a bill before they vote for it...Would a law MAKE THEM READ .... what have they been doing before ..just guess what a bill says and vote...all the people that were voted into office SHOULD READ or do we have to send them back to school to learn to read?
