Theodore “Ted” Olheiser, 65, Bismarck, died July 5, at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 13, at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Joel Samuelson officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bismarck Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ted was born Dec. 14, 1943 to John and Josephine “Jessie” (Horan) Olheiser. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. He was raised and educated in Dickinson and graduated from Dickinson High School.
After graduating, Ted joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. He finished his service, returned home and took on a variety of jobs from bartending to selling insurance. He soon met Berneice Sutheimer. They fell in love and were married on July 28, 1965. Ted attended Barber School in Fargo in 1968. After completing barber school, they moved to Bismarck and had four children.
Ted barbered in Bismarck for 40 years in such shops as the old G.P. Hotel building, the old bus depot, and his most recent shop, Bismarck Barber and Style, which he ran for over 20 years. He had an incredible work ethic and his main concern was to always provide for his family. He was never afraid to take on a second job if need be. Ted retired from barbering in 2008.
Ted enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends. His outgoing personality and barbering career made him the type of person who knew someone everywhere he went.
Ted is survived by his sons, Jim (Damaris), of Bismarck, Kevin (Rhonda), of Valdosta Ga., and Bryan (Barb), of Bismarck, his grandchildren, Amanda Olheiser, Addison Olheiser, and Ashlyn Olheiser, all of Valdosta, Ga., Scylor Olheiser, of Queen Creek, Ariz., Devon Phelan and Tylor Phelon, of Bismarck, Brandin Kuntz, of Bismarck, son-in-law, Craig Kuntz, of Bismarck, his brothers Ron (Beverly) Olheiser, Les (Judy) Olheiser, and John Olheiser all of Dickinson, his sisters Josephine (Aaron) Scheeler, of Mott, Shannon (Paul) Backer, of Bismarck, and Janice (Kent) Lynne, of New Leipzig, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Josephine, his wife, Berneice, his daughter, Sherry Kuntz, and his grandchild Austin Olheiser.
