Helen Schmidt

Funeral services for Helen Schmidt, 92, of Hebron, will be at 10 a.m. CDT on Tuesday, July 21 at St. John’s Church in Hebron with Pastor Gaylund Olson officiating. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery in Hebron. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. CDT with a prayer service at 7 p.m. CDT on Monday, July 20 at Spangelo-Stevenson Funeral Home in Hebron.

Helen passed away on Friday, July 17 at the Marian Manor Health Care Center in Glen Ullin.

Helen A. Schmidt was born in Glendive, Mont. on Feb. 11, 1917, the oldest of seven children to Daniel and Mary (Schroeder) Knopp. She attended Farmers Valley School #5 in Mercer County and resided in the Hebron community her entire life.

After her marriage to Henry (Hank) H. Schmidt on Nov. 2, 1944, they farmed North of Hebron in Stark County until his death in 1975.

Helen loved sewing, crocheting, baking and gardening. She was a member of St. John’s Church in Hebron.

Helen is survived by her sisters: Lydia “Martha” Rosewitz, Whittier, Calif. and Ruth Hilgendorf, Billings, Mont., brothers: Edward (Peggy) Knopp, Denver and Gilbert (Gertrude) Knopp, Hebron, along with man nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Henry, her parents and two brothers, Walter and Arnold.
