Rachel Mary Sagmiller, 84, of Moorhead, Minn., died March, 9, at the Evergreens of Moorhead, Minn. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST, Saturday, March 13, at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 Fifth St. NW, Beulah, with Pastor Mary Lou Aune officiating. Burial will follow at St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Golden Valley.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. MST, Friday, at Barbot-Seibel Funeral Home, 615 Fourth Ave. NE, Hazen.
Rachel was born on March 20, 1925, in rural Zap, to Reinhold and Mary Hinsz. Rachel graduated from Zap High School and two weeks later was on a train for the shipyards and aircraft carriers to assist in WWII. She was one of history’s original “Rosy the Riveters.” Her name will be placed on a national historical park in Washington state for her and other women’s contributions to help at WWII. After 2 years of being in Portland, Ore., Rachel came back to Zap to be a rural school teacher. On May 8 1949, she married Delmont Sagmiller. They lived near Hazen and then in Pick City, where Delmont was helping to construct the Garrison Dam. They relocated to various cities; Polson, Mont., Dickinson, Valley City and Aurora, Colo. They made many friends along the way.
Rachel lived the past 3 1/2 years in Moorhead, Minn. She always took great joy in road trips to see the grandchildren, or just for a day trip to pick strawberries. She loved the Beulah Friday-night gatherings for seniors. She was an active gardener, loved camping trips and was a German from Russia historian and traditional cook. She took many trips with family and friends in her lifetime. Rachel also loved card games, school reunions and family gatherings.
Rachel is survived by three children: Delrae Weiss and the late Les Weiss of Zap; Noreen (Lee) Thomas of Moorhead, Minn.; Girard (Sherri) Sagmiller of Kansas City, Kansas; grandchildren: Justin Weiss, Laine (Michael) Anderson, Brita, Evan, Carsten Thomas, Dakota and Savannah Sagmiller; great-grandchildren: Madison, Paige and Morgan.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delmont; granddaughter Amanda and great-grandson, Mason.

Delrae-I was on the Dickinson Press website and noticed the name of Sagmiller so I read the obit. I think I went to school with you at DHS. If so, sorry to hear of the loss of your Mother-my Mother was also 84 when she passed. It sounds like she had a very interesting and full life-your family should be proud. God Bless you. Darlys J.
