Jerry C. Larson, 63, Dickinson, died Tuesday, Aug. 24 at the University of Minnesota Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis. Jerry’s funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Dickinson United Methodist Church, with Rev. Scott McKirdy officiating. Interment will take place at the Nordland Cemetery, Bottineau.
Jerry C. Larson, 63, Dickinson, died Tuesday, Aug. 24 at the University of Minnesota Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis. Jerry’s funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Dickinson United Methodist Church, with Rev. Scott McKirdy officiating. Interment will take place at the Nordland Cemetery, Bottineau.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today with the family present to greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Jerry C. Larson was born July 10, 1947 in Bottineau, the son of Clarence and Evelyn (Roland) Larson. He was raised and educated in Bottineau, having graduated from Bottineau High School in 1965. He went on to the North Dakota State School of Forestry, graduating in 1967. He then attended North Dakota State University in Fargo, receiving a BS degree in animal science in 1969.
Jerry married Shirley Treitline on Aug. 16, 1969 in Wimbledon. They moved to Bismarck where Jerry began his career with the county extension office.
He began as an assistant Burleigh County extension agent, and then they moved to Forman, where he became the Sargent County extension agent. Following 6 ½ years in Forman the family moved to Dickinson where Jerry has served as the Stark/Billings County extension agent until his retirement in 2004. He then served as the extension horticulturist for the Dickinson Research Extension Center.
Jerry has received numerous recognitions for his work as an extension agent. He belonged to the Elks, Epsilon Sigma Phi, North Dakota Horticulture Society, Urban Forestry Committee, the Co-Op House while in college, Dickinson Chamber of Commerce and Ag Committee, and was the Education Chairman at the United Methodist Church.
Jerry loved gardening and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Shirley; their two children, Jeffrey (Shelley) Larson, Williston, and Patricia (special friend-Patrick Dietz) Brunk, Dickinson; five grandchildren, Kasey Larson, Khloe Larson, Tristen Brunk, Kylie Larson and Paige Eckes; and his sister, Carolyn Cobb, Dakota Dunes, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his father and mother-in-law, Willard and Flora Treitline.
