Sharon Louise Kostelecky, 65, Menominee, Mich., passed away Sunday, Nov. 18, at her home.
Sharon Louise Kostelecky, 65, Menominee, Mich., passed away Sunday, Nov. 18, at her home. She was born on Sept. 20, 1947, in Dickinson to Helen and Eddie Kostelecky.
After graduating from Dickinson State College with a degree in secondary education, she moved to Marinette, Wis., and began teaching English. She taught for 33 years at Marinette High School, retiring in 2002.
She was a dedicated teacher, very active in educational associations, including Delta Kappa Gamma. She took great pride in her work as yearbook advisor. Sharon worked diligently in fundraisers and scholarships for young women.
She was politically involved and worked on numerous campaigns for Rep. Bart Stupak.
Sharon was a loyal and generous friend and sister who gave of her time and energy, always anticipating the needs of others. She listened with an open heart and in a nonjudgmental manner. Sharon was an advocate for others, whether family, friends, teachers or students.
Her passion was for reading, she loved crossword puzzles and board games, especially Scrabble. She enjoyed many family vacations at her sister’s cabin in Minnesota. She was a great support to her brother, Kent, and his family during difficult times.
Sharon is survived by sisters, Sandy Miller of Brooklyn Park, Minn. and Stephanie Johnson (Tom) of New Hope, Minn.; and a brother, Kent Kostelecky of Marinette. Her generosity was unsurpassed when it came to her many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed.
Friends may call at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home in Marinette from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Bill Beyer officiating.
Following the service, everyone is invited to continue sharing the remembrance of Sharon’s life at a catered meal to be held at the Lourdes Social Center on Taylor St. in Marinette.
A private burial will be held later at Forest Home Cemetery.
