Funeral service for Edna Jorstad, 92, New England, is 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, New England, with Rev. Bruce Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in Peace Lutheran Cemetery, rural Regent.

Visitation for Edna is noon to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Edna passed away Tuesday, Nov. 27, at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Health Center in Dickinson.

Edna Brandner was born Dec. 13, 1919, in rural Hettinger County, the daughter of John and Katie (Stradinger) Brandner. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school.

After school, Edna continued to help her parents on the farm.

On March 24, 1945, Edna and Roy Jorstad were united in marriage. Together, the couple purchased the Jorstad family farm and eventually the Brandner farm. It was here, in the rural Regent/New England area, where they made their living and raised their family of five children.

In 1975, the couple retired to New England.

Edna truly loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a very strong individual and a great inspiration to her entire family and many others.

Edna enjoyed sewing, embroidery and working in her garden. A vase of fresh cut flowers was always found on her table. She was a very skilled cook, and enjoyed reading cookbooks but rarely used one. Cookies were Edna’s specialty and her grandchildren’s favorite treat.

She could often be heard humming and loved to sing hymns. Later in life, Edna enjoyed completing jigsaw puzzles.

The baseball games and old country western music could always be heard on her radio along with church and spiritual hymns on Sunday.

Edna was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, the Ladies Auxiliary and Cemetery Board. She later became a member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in New England.

Edna is survived by her sons, Ray Jorstad of Gurdon, Ark., and Marvin (Bernadine) Jorstad of Regent; daughters, Annetta Jesch of Dickinson, LaVon (Arlin) Reindel of New England, and Arlys (Allen) Schmidt of New England; grandchildren, Cheryl (Kevin) Danner, Diana (Mike) Nichols, Gina (Stan) Klein, Lori Madler, Kristin (Roan) Mestan, Tammi (Tom) Trzynka, Tiffanni (Scott) Wax, Terra (Travis) Jesch, Craig (Jolene) Reindel, Kim (Scott) Hoppe, Scott (Christa) Schmidt, Jodi (Tony) Olsonawski; 27 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Adeline Bender of New England.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Katie Brandner; her husband, Roy Jorstad; and sisters, Ida, Freda, Lydia and Lila; and her grandsons, Michael and Paul.
