Dorothy Urlacher, 77, Dickinson, died peacefully with her family by her side Wednesday, Dec. 5, at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson, following a courageous three year battle with cancer.
Dorothy Urlacher, 77, Dickinson, died peacefully with her family by her side Wednesday, Dec. 5, at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson, following a courageous three year battle with cancer.
Dorothy’s Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Rev. Shannon Lucht as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Dickinson.
Visitation is Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, with a St. Pius Verein rosary and vigil service at 3 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church Monday.
Dorothy Hellman was born Oct. 7, 1935, at Hirschville, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Steckler) Hellman. She grew up on a farm near Gladstone, where she attended country school through the eighth grade.
Dorothy married Florian Urlacher on Oct. 27, 1953, at St. Phillips Catholic Church, Hirschville. Together they farmed northeast of New England for 49 years.
Following retirement, they made Dickinson their home and for the past three years she has been a resident of the St. Benedict’s Health Center. Here she enjoyed the companionship of the staff as well as the other residents, especially those on unit 2.
She was a member of the St. Pius Verein, Schefield, the St. Mary’s Altar Guild, New England, and Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, reading and baking.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Florian; their eight children, Charles (Alice) Urlacher, Dickinson, Clara (Mike) Schultz, Cottage Grove, Minn., Caroline (Radley) Takaki, Anchorage, Alaska, Clarence Urlacher, New England, Kenneth Urlacher, Mandan, Marvin (Cindy) Urlacher, Dickinson, Marlene (Andy) Dieterich, Minneapolis, and Arnold (Cindy) Urlacher, Omaha, Neb.; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nine siblings, Valentine (Janet) Hellman, Tacoma, Wash., Mike Hellman, Great-Falls, Mont., Agnes Schutt, Beulah, Rose Dalton, Deering, Evie Collett, White Hall, Mont, Margaret Hedalen, Butte, Mont., Pat (Irene) Hellman, Osborn, Idaho, Regina (Joe) Rona, Anaconda, Mont., and Lorene (Jay) Hatch, Ashton, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joe Hellman; infant brother, John Hellman; an infant grandson, David Schultz.
Arrangements are with Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.
