Inez was born Oct. 1, 1930, at the family farm near Halliday, the daughter of John and Pauline Anderson. She attended elementary school at the Big Flat School near Halliday and graduated from Halliday High School in 1949.
After graduation, Inez moved to Dickinson where she worked at the J.C. Penney store for several years.
Inez was united in marriage to Willis Johnson on Nov. 28, 1964. They made their home on the family farm south of New England. Their daughter, Candace, was born in 1969.
Inez loved to garden and always had beautiful flowers. She enjoyed needle work, crocheting, and belonged to the Hettinger County Pioneers Homemakers Club.
Inez loved to cook for her family and friends, and her Lefsa was awesome. She loved to listen to music and to dance a waltz with Willis.
Inez and Willis retired from the family farm in 1997 and moved to Dickinson. During retirement, Inez and Willis took several bus tours around the country and Canada.
Inez was a member of Rainy Butte Lutheran Church until it closed in 1993. She then joined Our Redeemers Church in New England. She was an active member of the WELCA group at both churches. Inez was also a member of the Sons of Norwary Hardanger Lodge, St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxillary and an RSVP Volunteer.
The greatest joy for Inez was spending time with her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with Willis and they were inseparable. Inez was so proud of her family, especially her grandchildren, Luke and Maddy.
Inez is survived by her husband of 48 years, Willis Johnson; daughter, Candace (Pete) Stanton of Dickinson; her grandchildren, Luke and Madelyn of Dickinson; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Pauline Anderson; her sister, Doris Larry; and brother- in- law, Joe Larry.
Memorials are preferred to Badlands Ministries of Medora or Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church of New England.
Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at www.stevensonfuneralhome.com.
