Marion Abrahamson, 88, Tioga, formerly of Stanley, died Friday, Dec. 14, in the Tioga Long Term Care.
Funeral service is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 21, at 10:30 a.m. in the First Lutheran Church in Tioga.
Visitation is Thursday, Dec. 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Springan Funeral Home, Stanley, and Friday from 9 a.m. to service time at the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Stanley.
Marion was born Feb. 3, 1924, in Richland County, Moran Township, to Charles Frederick Kuehn and Martha Augusta Wagner Kuehn. She attended Milnor schools graduating in 1942.
Following graduation, she worked in a local grocery store in Milnor and for the local telephone company as a switchboard operator.
Marion was united in marriage to Herbert Abrahamson on Oct. 21, 1945, at Milnor. They farmed briefly before moving to town. They moved to Tioga in 1955 and raised their six children there, always active members at Tioga First Lutheran Church.
While raising their children, Marion did in-home child care, laundry services and baking services for many local teachers. She was also a cook at Central Elementary School, and later returned to working in the Tioga grocery stores.
Marion enjoyed gardening and canning many vegetables and making pickles of many varieties. Marion was an excellent baker of cookies, pies, breads, lefse and other Norwegian delicacies for Herb even though she was of German descent.
She was also an expert at sewing clothing for the family, church quilting and all types of needlework. Everyone in her family received many handmade gifts.
She loved to play many card games and word games. She was also active in local Bridge Clubs and Senior Citizens.
Herb and Marion also enjoyed many years of square dancing. Herb and Marion moved to Stanley in 1977 where she once again worked in the local grocery store and continued all of her previous pastimes.
Marion’s grandchildren always laughed because she wasn’t a fan of dogs, but the visiting family pets always went to her first!
Following Herb’s death in 2002, Marion relocated to Tioga where she lived until her passing. She was a member of the Stanley American Lutheran Church and Tioga First Lutheran Church.
Marion is survived by her children, H. Lee, Tioga, Linda Bolin, Missoula, MT, Earl (Susan) of Dickinson, Dennis (Kiki) of Anchor Point, Ark., Betty Freborg (Don) of Tioga. Grandchildren: Michelle Jorgenson, Elizabeth Christianson, Michael Bolin, Shane Abrahamson, Jason Abrahamson, Erica Wald, Collomia Charles, Anna-Mali Abrahamson, Syverine Abrahamson, Olivia Freborg, Sara Freborg, and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Pearl Ratliff, Cheyenne, WY, and sister-in-law Margaret Kuehn, Bella Vista, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; son, Bruce; parents, Charles and Martha Kuehn; sister, June; brothers, Henry and Charles.
