A funeral Mass for Francis “Frank” Walter, 95, Dickinson, is 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Keith Streifel celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Visitation for Frank is 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson, with a rosary and vigil service at 5 p.m.
Frank passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson.
Frank Walter was born June 5, 1917, in rural Dickinson, the son of Peter and Marianna (Muth) Walter. He grew up on his parents’ farm and graduated from a Stark County Country School.
Frank was a farmer in rural Dickinson with his mother.
In 1943, Frank married Anna Dolechek and together the couple continued to farm.
He enjoyed reading, especially history and often recalled that he had read every book the school had for students.
Frank also enjoyed old-time music and dancing, visiting museums, threshing bees, fishing, playing cards, pool, gardening and woodworking. He made more than 50 jewelry boxes out of recycled cedar fence posts.
Frank loved animals and watching the wild life on the farm. He had many pets, especially cats.
Frank received a plaque for more than 27 years of service as a board of director for the Dickinson Farmer’s Union Oil Company.
He was a member of the St. Pius Verein in Schefield, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. Anthony’s Club and the Eagles Club in Dickinson.
Frank is survived by his wife, Anna; children, Dianne Walter, Wilmerding, Pa., Allan Walter, Aurora, Colo., Douglas (Ernee) Watler, Dickinson, and Rhonda Walter-Frojen, Dickinson; grandsons, David Walter, Las Vegas, and James Frojen, Dickinson; two great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Eleanore Walter, Milwaukee, Wis., Beatrice Walter, Dickinson, Dorothy Steier, Dickinson, and Sally Dolechek, Dickinson, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.
