Adam P. Privratsky, 78, Dickinson, died Thursday, Jan. 10, at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson.

Adam’s Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Rev. Shannon Lucht as the celebrant. Military honors will follow the Mass and be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team. Interment will take place at the Killdeer Cemetery, Killdeer.

Visitation is Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with a rosary and vigil service at 3 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.

Adam Peter Privratsky was born June 10, 1934, in Dickinson, the son of John and Caroline (Pavlicek) Privratsky. He was raised on a farm north of Dickinson and attended Tabor School District No. 34, and Model High in Dickinson.

He joined the U.S. Army and served honorably from July 8, 1953, to May 16, 1955.

Adam married Shirley Boespflug on April 11, 1956, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Killdeer.

Following his discharge from the Army, he returned to Killdeer and began working at the bank in Killdeer, having spent nearly 30 years there. He then went to work as a mail carrier, first in Bozeman, Mont., and then Winterset, Iowa, retiring in 1999.

He had served a term as Dunn County Treasurer, and was also a VA real estate appraiser, licensed insurance agent and Realtor.

He was an active member of the Killdeer American Legion, Ezra Barrows Post No. 46, where he had served as the past commander, adjutant, and finance officer.

He was a very dedicated member of the Color Guard and had participated in many parades and funerals.

Adam was an avid reader, enjoyed collecting coins and antiques. His family was very important to him, and cherished the time spent with all of them. He was very proud of his Czech heritage, enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and outside of the country.

Adam is survived by his wife, Shirley; their four children, Wade (Melinda) Privratsky, Dickinson, Texas, Judi (Bill) Sprung, Montevideo, Minn., Scott (Roxanna) Privratsky, Devils Lake, and Curt (Beth) Privratsky, Stacy, Minn.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two siblings, August (Marge) Privratsky, Dickinson, and Eva Semerad, Walla Walla, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John and Joe; and two sisters, Caroline Wanner, and Lillian Rasmussen.

Arrangements are with Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.
