Our beloved Gerald passed through the gates of heaven Saturday, Jan. 12, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson, with his loving family by his side after a lengthy illness.

Gerald Francis Burwick, son of Milo L. and Rosie (Tessier) Burwick, was born Sept. 15, 1935, in Belfield. He attended St. Patrick’s Grade School and attended Model High. Gerald was proud to be the first student from Model High to letter in three sports: football, basketball and track.

Gerald enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on Jan. 10, 1955, and graduated from high school later that spring. After basic training, Gerald went on to serve in Tokyo, Japan, during the Korean War.

On March 22, 1956, Gerald married Eileen M. Ficek in Dickinson. From this loving union, three children were born: Lana, Milo F. and Todd. The couple moved to Long Beach, Calif., where they lived until Gerald was honorably discharged in 1960, achieving the rank of airman first class in the Air Force Air Police Honor Guard Company.

Upon returning to North Dakota from the service, Gerald went to work at Dakota Clay. In 1962, he began his career with Baker Boy. From 1977 until 1979, Gerald owned and operated Dough Boy Bakery and Burwick’s Kitchen in Hazen. In 1979, he returned to Baker Boy and held various positions with the growing company.

He lived and breathed Baker Boy; traveling throughout the United States and to various countries attending vendor shows, touring plants and scouting for new equipment that would benefit the company. He was very proud of all his achievements with the Baker Boy. After 50 years of service, Gerald retired in May of 2012.

Gerald loved his big boy toys. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and his annual trip to Sturgis.

He also enjoyed relaxing, watching his fish in the aquarium and football.

But most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were his pride and joy. He was always very proud of his children and grandchildren and loved them very much.

Gerald was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Eileen; children, Lana Steiner of Dickinson, Milo F. Burwick of Dickinson and Todd Burwick of Fargo; four grandchildren, Christopher (Sonya) Steiner of Kenmare, Michael (Jen) Steiner of Sentinel Butte, Eric (Lavy) Steiner of Belfield, and Dylan Burwick of Fargo; nine great-grandchildren, Ryann Steiner, Jackson Steiner, Trevor Floyd, Navaeh Floyd, Jacob Steiner, Ray Steiner, Kinze Steiner, Tori Steiner and Jayda Steiner; three brothers, Dale (Judy) Burwick of Dickinson, Dean (Marilyn) Burwick of Dickinson, and Barry (Lisa) Burwick of Lyons, Colo.; four sisters, Garnet (Ray) Wock of South Heart, Myra (Ted) Klein of Dickinson, Tess (Tom) Ehli of Dickinson, and Marlo (Ryan) Nelson of Dickinson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Milo and Rosie (Tessier) Burwick; paternal grandparents, Richard and Signe (Johnson) Burwick; maternal grandparents, George and Minnie (Dorval) Tessier; one nephew, Casey Wock and twin nieces, Michaela and Nicole Burwick.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Eileen Burwick, 902 28th Street West, Dickinson, ND 58601 to help defray the cost Gerald’s medical expenses.

Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at www.stevensonfuneralhome.com.
