Joseph A. Kytoichuk

Joseph A. Kytoichuk, 93, Belfield, died Monday, Jan. 14, at the St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson.

Joseph’s Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belfield with Rev. William Ruelle officiating. Interment will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery.

Visitation is 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the church and will continue one hour prior to service time Thursday. There will be a vigil and rosary service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Military honors provided by the William C. Blair Post No. 144.

Joseph A. Kytoichuk was born Oct. 30, 1919, in Belfield, the son of Joe and Polly (Czop) Kytoichuk. He was raised and educated in Belfield, where he has spent most all of his life.

Joseph joined the U.S. Army and served honorably from March 20, 1942, to Nov. 10, 1945, with the combat engineers in the South Pacific and Aleutian Isles.

He returned to Belfield where he worked as a meat cutter for more than 40 years in small grocery stores in Belfield and Montana, with 33 years as a meat cutter at Franklin’s Fairway Foods.

Joseph was a member of the Belfield American Legion, and also different archery clubs for more than 50 years. He enjoyed looking for arrowheads in the Badlands, and playing cards during his off time.

Joseph is survived by his brother, Casimer C. Kytoichuk, Dickinson; his sister, Pauline Dorval, Dickinson; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1945, his mother in 1946, one brother, Peter and two sisters, Ann Tessier and Bergeda Kytoichuk.
